Dear Visitors,
This is a collection of the most frequently asked questions we
have answered over the years. Most likely you will find a question you
are about ask us already answered here.
For any other question please contact us.
1. How far is Chelidonia Villas from the
town center? Two to three minutes by foot. Chelidonia is right
down from Oia's main street, a pretty narrow, marbled lane reserved to
pedestrians. From us it is a two minutes' walk to central town square.
Bus station, bakeries, groceries, a dozen restaurants, cash machines
etc. can be reached within five minutes.
2. What about breakfast? Each villa
comes with a fully equipped kitchen or kitchenette including a furnace with two hot plates,
fridge and coffee-machine. Therefore the majority of our guests
prefer to organize their own breakfast at any time they feel happy and
enjoy it on their own veranda. The maid is ordered not to do service at
that time. Three cafeterias, grocery, bakery and other shops are two to
three minutes walk away.
3. Is there a pool at chelidonia
villas? No. Oia's caldera side is under protection of the
UNESCO world cultural heritage program. Therefore swimming pools on the
caldera are illegal. Besides that we would not feel comfortable offering
a pool for ecological reasons. The sewage systems here do not have the
capacity to process that amount of waste water full of chlorine and
other chemicals.
4. How can I access the internet? Ask for the key to the omputer-room at chelidonia reception. You will
find a windows machine and an elderly macintosh there plus a free slot
to plug in your own laptop computer. If your laptop supports wireless
access [WLAN] you can do your e-mail on your terrace or in the frontside
part of your villa. Just open up your laptop, activate wireless internet
and type in the code you find in the desk drawer.
5. Is there daily maid service? Yes
of course. Towels are changed daily, bed sheets every three days
respectively in the middle of a 7 night's stay. Please do not take the
white hotel towels to the beach as beach towels are available on
request.
6. How do we get to Chelidonia Villas from
Santorini [air]port? As Chelidonia is a small family business,
we do not have a transfer service of our own. We can order at taxi to
wait for you at main port or Santorini airport. If you rent a car at
the local car rental we cooperate with that car will be waiting for at
the port or the airport. Same procedure applies when you are leaving.
There is no extra charge for that service.
7. What does transport cost? Taxi
fare to/from the port or the airport is 25 Euro, one way, up to 4
passengers. The ride will take you about half an hour, the distance is
18 Kilometers. Taxis can be ordered for any time of the night and in
general they are pretty reliable. The cab company we have been
cooperating with for years has never given a single cause for complaint.
Renting a car on the other hand saves you the taxi fares. Prices at
Vazeos and other car rentals start at about 30 Euros per day.
8. Can we see the sunset from our
terraces? The caldera side of Oia and so our villas are facing
the south and southeast, so you see the volcano and the full caldera but
you do not see the touchdown of the sun. The well known sunset spot at
the remains of Oia's Venetian castle is on the west end of village. Our
guests go there once and never again because hundreds of tourists are
crowded there who have been brought by tour buses from all over
Santorini. The best way to enjoy the sunset is in a fish tavern at the
fisherman's port of Amoudi. There you are on the same level with the sun
when it touches the sea.
9. Where can we go swimming and are there
beaches? There are several to choose from:
I) Armeni is at the end of a 10 minutes walk down the steps of
the steep coast at the caldera side. There are small beaches with
pebbles, others with rocks. Fish tavernas as well. Back upstairs donkey
rides available.
II) Katharos is about 15 minutes to walk on a road from the
city center (no steps). Katharos beach is with red and black pebbles, a
snack bar offers shade, small meals and cool drinks.
III) Baxedes is a very long partly sandy beach with dark
volcanic sand is at Oia's northern flat coast, 3 km from centreville.
During high season public busses operate several times a day. With a
motor scooter or a car it takes you just about 5 minutes to go there .
